these things this one is going to be a good one, hopefully! hahah
anyways so this week started off with zone confrence! Holy crud do I
love my mission! We talked about how much we should love our mission
and how that love for the Savior drives us to keep pushing through. We
sang "How Firm a Foundation" and we always sing all the verses expect
6 because that's the old age verse and Prez and Mama Bell don't like
that one. But if you haven't read the verses of that song recently you
should!
THEN ON WEDNESDAY WE HAD A TEMPLE TRIP! All of the Wichita Stake
missionaries got to go down to Oklahoma City and do a session and have
such a great time! It's about a 2 and a half hour drive down so we had
a lot of pondering to do and lots of preparation. I came with a
question and was praying about it and just not really feeling a
definite answer. We went through the temple and in the temple I opened
up the scriptures and BOOM there it was. Now I'm sure that any page I
would have turned to, God would have been able to answer my question
through the spirit but it's amazing how much you really feel God's
love when you get such a blatant answer. Then afterwords we got to
meet with the Temple President for a question and answer session and
that was SO awesome! Spiritually blown away!
Then we came home and in our mail we found coupons to free Chipotle!
(Like not some buy one get one sorta deal, but a straight FREE
burrito. and as we find out free meaning double meet, guac, extra
anything. Free!) And then we went to throw away the other junk mail
that we got and as we looked down we saw a couple more of those free
chipotle coupons in the trash! So needless to say, Chipotle will be
the meal of choice for the next couple days. God is good!
Now here's the story with action and drama! So when I was first
serving in this ward Elder Whitaker and I were teaching this woman
named Laura! She is so awesome and had so much going against her ever
joining the church. Whenever I would see missionaries that were
serving here throughout my mission I would always ask about her and
she was usually always doing the same. So these last 2 weeks she had a
complete turn around because her granddaughter turns 8 on the 20th and
she wanted to get baptized with her! So all was well, things were
going great! Laura passed her baptismal interview and it was SOO
Great. Then they got a hold of some Anti. Laura's concerns were easy
to overcome and she was still good, but her granddaughter's mom
wouldn't hear it and pretty much took Kayleigh (the granddaughter) and
dropped off the face of the map. We all kept trying to reach her with
no success. We finally found out where they lived and it was this
apartment complex that hated missionaries (plot twist, it was actually
the apartment complex that I lived in when I first got to the mission)
They had kicked missionaries off in the past but they never told us
anything so we decided to go on. We had the building but not the
actual apartment number, so we knock around a little bit keeping an
eye out for security guard and we were good. We finally knock this guy
that answered and he told us that he knew where the lived and gave us
the apartment. They weren't home, so we resolved that we were just
going to go later in the evening figuring the rumors that we heard
were exaggerated. They weren't. as we left the building to get to our
car this guy stops us and tells us that we can't be there (and it's
not like these apartments are fancy, or gated or anything. Think
ghetto, loud music, smokey hallways, constant yelling from the
tenants, type place). The guard is nice enough but very straight
forward that we couldn't be back unless we check in with the office.
So the day goes on and we come back and try the office but it's
closed. So we go and knock and get no response and then we quickly
leave. We knew we couldn't give up though! So we started thinking
outside the box. So we decided to run home and change into normal
clothes and then go knock one last time. We figured if we were in
normal clothes they wouldn't be able to realize that we were
missionaries and not bother us and we would be able to see the Mom and
get everything back on track. So we drive across town and finally get
back to the apartment. We knock, no response we try one last neighbor
that has never answered and as we are about to leave, THE MOM WALKS
UP!!!! (Now here's another part of the story, I've only met the Mom
once, 18 months ago for about 20 second, not joking so I had no idea
what to say, or how to say it, or ANYTHING!) So I start talking and
establish that I'm a missionary (in my regular clothes haha) and it's
super awkward but I could feel the spirit telling me what to say, I
barely even remember what I said, but it worked. She let us in and it
worked! Now today Laura got baptized and Kayleigh is next week! It was
such a cool miracle! God was so in control of that situation, nothing
we could have done would have made a difference but because our
efforts were magnified by God, the Spirit of the Lord worked through
us and we were able to see a miracle!
Then yesterday we get to the YSA ward that we cover as well and the
bishop pulls us aside right before the start of the meeting and asks
us to give talks because the other speaker wasn't going to make it!
Thank goodness "How Firm a Foundation" was stuck in my head, so I just
read the lyrics and gave a talk on each verse about the Atonement. It
wasn't the best talk I've ever given but it turned out alll good!
This week truly has been so amazing. Such a testimony builder of all
the wonderful miracles of God. He loves us, more then we could
possibly imagine! Sorry I wrote so much, but hopefully if you were
getting bored of these things this one added some more action!
Love you all so much!
